Hertsmere Jews have been urged to rally behind an application to vary the positions of some poles for the long-awaited Elstree and Borehamwood eruv, which has been submitted to the local council.
The revised application was demanded by Hertsmere planners last month after it was found that obstacles such as trees and underground utilities required the relocation of a number of previously approved positions.
This week, the Ebor Eruv Trust appealed to members of the local Jewish community to demonstrate their support for the new application by writing to the planning department and to their local councillor, emphasising the benefits that the eruv will bring to residents. A trust spokesman admitted that "given the press coverage which the eruv has attracted recently, we expect there to be a higher level of objections than with our previous applications. As such, it is vital that as many people as possible write to support this project as soon as possible."
