Starring role for TV extra

articlemain

Britain's oldest television extra celebrated her 100th birthday in the company of a soap opera villain.

Lottie Goodwin, a resident at the Morris Feinmann care home in south Manchester, retired from the screen only last year, having appeared in Coronation Street, Brookside, Hollyoaks and Darling Buds of May among other popular series.

She has been a regular extra in Emmerdale and long-time friend Chris Chittell, who plays Eric Pollard in the soap, brought star quality to the birthday bash.

Praising Ms Goodwin, Mr Chittell said walk-on extras "are on their feet all the time and Lottie only left Emmerdale eight months ago. That shows the measure of the woman. She is a joy, always upbeat and never complains."

Ms Goodwin said: "I would go back to work tomorrow if I could. I loved every single day."

More than 50 guests joined the party, including 13 great-grandchildren.
