Stamford Hill school scores well with Ofsted inspectors

A Chasidic girls' primary school in Stamford Hill has impressed Ofsted inspectors.

Bnos Zion of Bobov, an independent school for 158 girls aged from three to 12 serving the Bobov Chasidic community, was rated good after a visit from Ofsted, with the behaviour and care of pupils found to be outstanding.

Pupils "achieve well" at key stages during their time at the school and made good progress in reading and writing, with an excellent grasp of spelling and grammar.

In the nursery, inspectors found that "most children are at the early stages of learning English. All rapidly develop fluency in English and become bilingual, with Yiddish as their first language. A number are multilingual. By the end of reception, most children have made good progress and exceed a good level of development."

But overall, work in science showed less attention than in maths and English.

The few pupils with special educational needs made fast progress because of the efforts made to help them, inspectors noted. The school's leaders had shown a "determined drive to improve the quality of teaching" since the last inspection.
