Harrow and Hertfordshire synagogues have begun hosting almost 3,000 pupils from 48 schools as part of Northwood's annual Holocaust Memorial Day programme.
Educational workshops with survivors are being hosted by the Northwood, Belmont, Borehamwood and Elstree, Bushey and Watford US communities, as well as by Northwood and Pinner Liberal. Connection is made between the Holocaust and subsequent genocides and pupils are asked to consider their personal responsibility to promote tolerance. Now in its 14th year, the programme has reached well over 20,000 young people.
South of the river, the Kingston United and Liberal synagogues have also combined on a Holocaust educational programme featuring survivor testimony and involving 1,200 students.
