Serving at Wimbledon

articlemain

Kashrut observant Wimbledon fans are once again indulging their cravings for kosher burgers and hot dogs, followed by the traditional strawberries and (parev) cream.

For the third year, Chabad South London has a kosher food trailer at the tennis championships, this time located close to the queue snaking through the temporary car park opposite the Wimbledon complex.

Organiser Rabbi Dovid Cohen said the venture's fame and customer base had grown. "We get a lot of repeat customers now, not just Londoners but visitors from the provinces and even overseas. And as well as observant Jews and those who just prefer to eat kosher if it is available, we also get a fair sprinkling of casual passing custom.

"Last year, we got several hundred customers over the course of the fortnight. This year we hope we'll do even better, what with word of mouth recommendations and the signs we have put up all over the area."

Rabbi Cohen claims that prices are the same, and in some instances cheaper, than his competitors. "We could charge more, but we don't want to put any obstacle in the way of people who want to keep kosher."
