The royal wedding was a school day at Manchester's King David High. To make it a celebratory occasion, teachers had stayed late the previous night to decorate corridors with banners wishing the couple mazeltov. Special assemblies and an ice cream lunch were also organised.

Years seven to nine enjoyed a cinema-style screening of the cerem-ony in the school library. Additional television coverage was beamed into the lunch hall.

Jewish studies head Rabbi Benjy Rickman told an assembly that pupils were expressing their dual roles as Jews and British citizens by being in a school which organised its calendar around Pesach celebrations but also "as Brits feeling pulled to the festive mood".

Governors' chair Joshua Rowe said that "whilst school had to be open, it joined the nation in celebrating in a most meaningful way".
