Sainsbury's kosher food 'vandalised'

articlemain

Sainsbury's is investigating claims that the kosher food section at its Whitechapel store is being vandalised.

Rachel Vincent, 61, an Israeli living in Tower Hamlets, says she has been reporting incidents for nearly a year. "The problems are with the chilled section. Sausages and ham and bacon are deliberately put with the kosher food. I keep complaining but it never changes."

More recently, "there have been holes torn in sealed products, like Yarden hummus, and kosher frankfurters have been torn apart. Last time I was there boxes of matzah had been torn open.

"I have explained to different managers in the store how important it is for Jews to be strict about things like this, but most of them don't know about Jewish dietary laws."

Ms Vincent rejected the claim of store manager Peter White that he had no knowledge of her complaints.

A Sainsbury's spokesperson stressed: "We take any allegations like this extremely seriously and have invited Ms Vincent to meet the manager of our Whitechapel store to discuss this in person."
