The Sinai Synagogue in Leeds hosted the Rainbow Jews travelling exhibition, a Lottery-funded project reflecting the Jewish lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender history from the 1950s to the present day. Guests included Pudsey and Aireborough MP Stuart Andrew, who recalled in his younger years trying to reconcile his Christian faith with his homosexuality. Leeds North East MP Fabian Hamilton spoke of his sister’s realisation that she was gay. “The time she moved in with her female friend was really frowned upon,” he said. “She was looked down on by the family. It was very hard for my parents to take on board.”
