Parents of Ilford Jewish Primary and King Solomon High pupils will be putting their names to a drive to raise £45,000 towards the building project which will see IJPS move to King Solomon’s Barkingside site.
At the heart of the campaign is the opportunity for parents and families to have their names and messages featured on a specially commissioned permanent sculpture which will stand in the school grounds.
The sculpture will be one large chai, the Hebrew word for life. For a £180 donation, smaller chai-shaped pieces inscribed with messages from pupils’ families will be added.
“We want the next generation of schoolchildren to pass through the school gates and feel genuine pride at their parents’ commitment to Jewish life and Jewish education,” said Laura Marks, joint Friends of IJPS chair. “The chai symbolises that.”
The King Solomon campus development is viewed as a means of regenerating Jewish life in the Redbridge area.
