A £15 million-plus housing redevelopment in Clapton Common tailored in part to the needs of Orthodox families has been unanimously approved by Hackney councillors.
Although plans for Buccleuch House were first mooted by the Hanover Housing Association in 2005, the project finally got the green light after the involvement of the Agudas Israel Housing Association (AIHA) and Hill Residential. Planning permission had previously been denied on the ground of inadequate design.
Hanover’s Philip Barrow explained that “the success this time owes a lot to the tripartite partnership alongside a very modern yet sympathetic design”.
As part of the 107-apartment scheme, AIHA will provide 13 shared ownership and 15 affordable rent homes for Orthodox families.
AIHA chief executive Ita Symons said: “At long last we can see much-needed affordable housing being developed in the heart of our community.”
