South London’s only Jewish nursery, the Wimbledon Synagogue-based Apples and Honey, has been rated outstanding by Ofsted inspectors.

Ofsted described the nursery as “outstanding in meeting the needs of children. There are meticulous procedures in place to ensure that all children are treated as individuals [and] whose care and education is of paramount importance.”

The Ofsted report also highlighted the “excellent evaluation and quality assurance procedures put in place by staff. These ensure that the nursery maintains outstanding continuous improvement.”

Principal Judith Ish-Horowicz said that “words can’t describe how thrilled we are to have attained ‘outstanding’ in all aspects of our inspection. Judaism has given us the perfect structure through which to cover all areas of learning in a stimulating, supportive, ethical and inclusive way.”

Although centred on the values and traditions of Judaism, Apples and Honey welcomes children of all faiths.
