Norwood has launched a new programme of Challenges which the children and family charity hopes will generate more than the £1.3 million raised from the 2007 events.
Good sports are being challenged to bike rides in Israel and South Africa and an Amalfi trek taking walkers along one of the world’s most beautiful coastlines. For the more ambitious, there’s the Aconcagua climb in Argentina, in which participants will scale the highest mountain in the Southern Hemisphere — 6,959 metres.
Closer to home, there is a 60-mile bike ride from London to Hove, a 10 or 20-mile waterside walk in Surrey and Golf Aid, where the challenge is completing rounds at Wentworth, The Grove and Moor Park in one day.
Head of Challenges Ian Tate said the programme was designed to tax body and mind, catering for “people with a wide range of abilities who want to get fit and have fun while raising money”.
Last year’s biggest earner was a Vietnam/Cambodia bike ride, whose 175 participants raised £850,000.
