The Alyth Reform congregation in Golders Green marked its 90th anniversary with a week of celebratory activities.
At its heart was a service, 90 years to the day from the shul’s first, followed by a reception on the forecourt, from where guests could view the progress in the building project for the synagogue’s new wing.
Other events staged for the 3,500-member community included an intergenerational version of the synagogue’s “Baby Den” service; lectures on the history and architecture of the synagogue and a special morning for the community’s children, taking them on a journey through the nine decades of Alyth life.
The community’s choral tradition was reflected by a concert of Alyth choirs, including its refugee choir, featuring attendees at its refugees’ drop-in.
Principal rabbi Josh Levy said the week had demonstrated “what makes this community special — a diverse range of activities for every age and interest.
When they had the vision of a Progressive community in the heart of Golders Green, the founders could never have imagined what their synagogue would become.”
