Dundee academic Paul Spicker is the new head of the Scottish Council of Jewish Communities.

The professor of public policy at Aberdeen's Robert Gordon University says that as a former Dundee Hebrew Congregation chair, he brings to the role the experience of dealing with the problems of a small community. "SCoJeC has been a wonderful support to Dundee and I hope we'll be able to reach out more to people across Scotland."

SCoJeC has been asked by the Scottish Government's Community Safety Unit to develop a proposal for a qualitative study about the experience of being Jewish in Scotland. The AGM was followed by a meeting on that subject.

Public affairs officer Leah Granat said it was "an initial consultation to consider how the proposal should be developed. Further meetings will be held after the summer break."

In other changes to the SCoJeC leadership, Nicola Livingston becomes secretary and Glasgow Jewish Representative Council president Eddie Isaacs is made a vice-chair.
