Members past and present joined the 60th anniversary celebrations of Mosaic Reform, formerly Middlesex New Synagogue, in Harrow.
Photos reflecting the congregation’s history lined the walls of the synagogue in Bessborough Road. Longstanding supporters Alderman Keith Toms and Harrow deputy mayor Councillor Ghazanfar Ali were among the guests.
Speakers included shul administrator Ann Simons, a member of one of the synagogue’s founding families, who has worked with seven rabbis. She described a community where people gave “unstintingly of their time. We have been lucky to have leaders of today who have built on the leaders of yesterday. This community will go from strength to strength.”
Mosaic minister Rabbi Kathleen de Magtige-Middleton praised the “faith and dedication of founder members”. And regarding plans to move to new premises, she added: “We are a community that is not afraid to change and adapt to the needs of the moment.”
Entertainment included a comedic performance by Howard Berger, a Mosaic member and father of MP Luciana Berger.
