Morrisons: kosher wine ‘is not wine’

articlemain

Morrisons has apologised to Jewish customers for not including kosher wine in an in-store promotion at its Bury supermarket.

The store ran a week-long offer of a 25 per cent saving on “any six bottles of wine”. But customers taking their kosher wine to the checkout were told that it did not count as wine but as a kosher product.
Shopper Martin Glass wanted to buy 24 bottles of kosher wine through the offer, only to be told there was no discount.

“I said kosher wine is wine. I didn’t want to make a fuss because there was a whole queue behind me. They got the wine manager who told me that kosher wine comes under the kosher section, not wine.”

Another customer said being refused the discount at the till was “embarrassing. Everyone behind was staring at me. I got in touch with Morrisons’ head office to tell them this isn’t right.”

Apologising, a Morrisons’ spokesperson said shoppers who had not received a discount on kosher wine could contact the store for a refund.

“We’re sorry that kosher wines weren’t included in the original promotion and we’re grateful to customers for bringing the oversight to our attention. As soon as we were made aware, we ran a promotion exclusively on kosher wines.”
