It is a gap year with a difference for the two new Jewish Agency emissaries in Leeds, Mia Winroab and Shiri Livnym.

Ms Livnym said that in Israel, "it is common to take a gap year prior to doing army service and to engage in volunteering work in the community. We chose to come to Leeds because the connection between Jews in Israel and the diaspora is very important to us. We'd never heard of the city before but now we are here, we can see how lovely it is and we are in awe of how close the community is. Our main goal is to bring Israel to Leeds."

The duo hope to fill a gap in Jewish and Israel-related education within Leeds Jewry.

Ms Winroab will also work two days a week at Manchester's King David School campus.
