Matt Lucas hosted a supper quiz on Sunday to launch Edgware Reform Synagogue’s 75th anniversary celebrations.
The 260 tickets were snapped up within 24 hours and the Little Britain star — Edgware Reform’s most famous son —did not disappoint his audience, which included his mother and step-mother.
Lucas expanded his quizmaster duties with a stint as auctioneer, coaxing substantial bids for the star lot, an Arsenal pennant signed by the first team squad. His efforts helped raise £8,000 for shul funds and he was presented with a leather-bound prayer book as a token of the community’s appreciation.
Other anniversary events will include a wine tasting, art exhibitions, a civic service and a family fun day.
