North West London Jewish Day School pupils went that extra mile, staging an 11-day "Mitzvah marathon" centred around the armed forces and remembrance. The 260 children joined up with a local school to make Christmas and Chanucah cards for soldiers serving overseas. During the marathon, pupils collected goods for Brent's refugee community, filling a supermarket trolley donated by Tesco. School chesed co-ordinator Ruth Finkel said: "We wanted to encourage the children to be at their synagogue communities on Sunday for Mitzvah Day. We think they've had a whale of a time. The chesed committee at the school has voted to continue raising money for the Royal British Legion."
