Manchester’s three largest Jewish primaries are among the country’s top performing schools, according to the latest league tables based largely on year-six SATs exams.

At North Cheshire Jewish Primary, ranked 14th out of 14,000 schools, headteacher Jackie Savage said the close-knit Manchester community was key to local schools’ achievements as it brought a high level of educational co-operation.

There has been enormous improvement in the performance of junior pupils at Manchester King David Junior pupils, ranked 34th.

At 38 on the list is Broughton Jewish Cassel Fox Primary School, where head Leon Bernstein also highlighted the benefits of interaction.

“The community is very condensed. I see my pupils not only in school, but after school, and there is much more interaction.”

The top performing Jewish primary in the London area is the strictly Orthodox Avigdor Hirsch Torah Temimah boys’ school in Brent.

Its headteacher Anthony Wolfson said “the results add strength to the fact that faith schools deliver high standards”.

Even the results of the lowest ranked Jewish schools in the government figures are in line with national averages and target standards.
