Manchester Jewry paid tribute to the Queen at a service at Heaton Park Synagogue on Sunday.
Organised by the city’s Jewish Representative Council, it was attended by 450 people, including Metro Mayor Andy Burnham and Bury South MP Christian Wakeford, who were both among the speakers.
In a message to the event, Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis wrote that “since Jews reset-tled in Great Britain some 370 years ago, we have relentlessly pursued the great British dream – to prosper in a society which sees the humanity in all people and feels a sharp sense of responsibility to one and all.
“The Queen was the very embodiment of these values.”
Rep council chair Mark Adlestone said afterwards that the service had been “a poignant and fitting memorial.
“Having had the honour of meeting royalty on a number of occasions, I know they have a deep interest in the welfare of the Jewish community.
“I enjoyed having the opportunity to properly pay our respects at our special service. I am delighted that we were joined by the most senior lay and elected representatives from across Greater Manchester.”
