An urban regeneration developer has called for additional last-minute consultations with Manchester families after altering plans for a major Salford housing scheme to attract Jewish residents.
Countryside Properties has scheduled two days of extra consultations next Monday and Tuesday at Salford's Broughton Hub before applying for planning permission for 80 family homes on the site of demolished terraced housing on Leicester Road in the heart of the north Manchester Jewish community. Jewish leaders have said the development could ease a housing shortage.
Original plans for the three-storey townhouses have been adapted following the feedback from hundreds of Jews who attended consultation events last month. Revised plans being drawn up will incorporate larger dining rooms to accommodate family Shabbat seating and kosher kitchens.
Countryside's land director Ian Simpson said: "We have been working closely with the local community and its leaders to help inform our proposed plans. We have revised our house designs to accommodate a number of points raised.
"These include changing the ground floor accommodation to include a separate lounge and dining room. And the kitchen size has been increased to incorporate a second sink."
