Broadcaster Emily Maitlis was the headline act for World Jewish Relief at its dinner at London’s Guildhall on Monday, which raised £1.2 million.
Ms Maitlis — who has seen the charity’s work in action in Moldova — told the 540 guests: “Whenever I reflect on the people WJR help, I cannot but conclude that but for the grace of God, they could be my grandparents, parents or even me. This really is our extended family and we have to make a difference for them.”
Musical entertainment was provided by harpist Mina Momcilovic, who has benefited from WJR’s support in Serbia.
