Two years after the sudden resignation of Rabbi Charles Middleburgh, Cardiff Reform Synagogue is still without a minister and does not expect to have a replacement until the end of the year.
"It's because we're a small community out in the sticks," said chairman Mark Stone. "It takes time for someone who we want to want to come to us. There are not many local rabbis."
As an interim measure, the shul was paying Rabbi Monique Mayer of Bristol and West Progressive to take one service a month. However, Mr Stone was not overly concerned about the situation, saying: "It needs to be sorted out but it's not dire. Everyone wants a rabbi but no one wants to pick the wrong one."
