DS Tayman's gold standard 12-year-old single malt is finished in a Syrah barrel from a social enterprise Haifa winery
December 23, 2022 14:02Londoners Danny Saltman and Saul Taylor are toasting the success of their DS Tayman whisky brand, which has scooped four prizes at the World Whiskies Awards.
Their prize-winning entries included a gold award for Caol Ila, a 12-year-old single malt finished in a Syrah wine barrel from Tulip, a boutique Israeli winery near Haifa which employs people with special needs.
Mr Saltman - who boasts two decades’ experience in the alcohol industry - travelled widely in Scotland in his quest to match “choice Scotch whiskies with hand-chosen casks.
“After winning silver awards previously, we are delighted that the improvements we have made in our newest whiskies have been recognised in this way by industry experts.”
He was “particularly pleased” to partner with Tulip, whose “extraordinary social enterprise enables local people to reach their full potential, regardless of their challenges, at every stage of their life”.
DS Tayman’s Tulip range also took the best new product award at Kosherfest in New Jersey, the largest international kosher food convention.
The long-time friends founded DS Tayman in 2020 and its whiskies have built up a loyal following, particularly in America, where they appear on the menus of high end restaurants.
And in the UK, Jolyon Dunn, director of the Milroy’s of Soho whisky bars, complimented the company on “their innovative approach and quality of their whisky. Their products are increasingly popular in our bars.”
All the whiskies are kosher and carry hechshers from the Orthodox Union, KLBD (Kosher London Beth Din) and Rav Akiva Osher Padwa of London.
Dalkeith Brokerage, DS Tayman’s parent company, was recently named Start-Up of the Year at the JC-sponsored Work Avenue Business Awards.
