Liverpool pleads for welfare cash

articlemain

Merseyside Jewish Community Care is calling for increased support after a drastic drop in donations.

At its AGM on Wednesday night, treasurer Richard Lewis reported a £46,000 operating deficit, donations having fallen from £104,000 to £51,000. The drop in contributions comes on top of the loss of £20,000 in grants from Liverpool City Council which had funded meals-on-wheels services.

There was some positive news - £6,000 from the Big Lottery Fund towards two of the charity's Active Ageing projects for the elderly.

MJCC has also received £10,000 from Liverpool City Council as part of its £1 million Transformation Fund to assist non-profit organisations hit by cuts.

Charity president Edward Mott-Cowan said: "We are relying on members of the community to support us as they have done in the past. But obviously we are even more reliant upon them now. We are hoping that we won't have to cut projects. But we've got to find the funding and there is a lot of pressure on that."

Donations to MJCC are down by half
