Leeds showing its life through a lens

articlemain

A first Jewish community photography exhibition in Leeds provided a snapshot of local Jewish life.

Some 150 guests viewed images of Leeds neighbourhoods and other Jewish themes produced by seven photographers.

The exhibition is among a growing number of cultural initiatives promoted by the Leeds Jewish Representative Council and follows an eight-week course led by photographer and designer David Cole.

Marjorie and Edward Ziff opened the show, which runs for two weeks at the MAZ community centre. Proceeds from sales of the prints will go towards future courses.

Mr Cole's involvement stemmed from meeting community worker Susie Gordon at a craft fair. "I was thinking anyway about forming a community learning hub using photography as the hook," he explained. "So I'm pleased to see so many people supporting the course and the students."
