Leeds launches awards to thank its ‘heroes’

The Leeds community is to hold its first awards ceremony recognising the city’s unsung heroes. The Leeds Jewish Community Pride Awards, launched by the eight-strong team of Leeds Jewish Welfare Board’s fundraising committee, will honour those people it believes make a difference to the community.

Over the next four months people will have the chance to cast votes in a number of categories including community volunteer, best neighbour, best carer and best teacher — culminating in the Leeds Jewish personality of the year.

Jane Clynes, project facilitator, said: “This is a community project and the public’s support is paramount.”

Once the votes have been counted, the nominations for each category will be announced and a second round of public voting will commence in the autumn. The winners will be announced at a gala awards dinner in Leeds on December 4. Voting forms are available at local shops or on www.ljwbprideawards.co.uk
