Leeds charity’s royal recognition

Leeds Jewish Welfare Board has been honoured in the Duke of York’s Community Initiative awards.

LJWB trustee Andrew Lewis received the award from the Duke at a Harrogate ceremony recognising Yorkshire organisations that have changed the lives of their communities.

The Duke explained that, visiting a housing estate in York some years ago, he saw “what a real difference could be achieved by the community working together, identifying their own needs and deciding for themselves the actions needed to find the answers to such needs.

“Today the community initiative which bears my name is a great success story throughout Yorkshire.”

LJWB chief executive Rebecca Weinberg said: “We are delighted to have a royal seal of approval. Having this accreditation will hopefully open doors for us when we are seeking funding opportunities.”
