Cherie Blair has lent her support to a £1.75 million project by Langdon, supporting young Jewish adults with learning difficulties.

Mrs Blair joined Langdon leaders and clients on Monday to launch The Quadrant, an Edgware property being rebuilt and refurbished to provide one two-bedroom and two individual flats. There will also be accommodation for 24/7 carers and a drop-in community centre. Building work is expected to take 18 months.

Langdon chair Barry Welck said: "We know our residents thrive by having their own community which helps them lead a full and structured life. Sadly, there are a number of non-residents with learning disabilities who have no social life. The Quadrant will be a much-needed focus."

Mrs Blair said the positivity of residents showed that "when supported living works, it benefits the lives of those who need that additional hand of support".

Langdon has 25 residents in the Edgware area and 40 in Manchester.
