King David says goodbye to building

articlemain

A nostalgic farewell to Manchester Kind David's decommissioned building was held on Sunday.

The building is to be demolished after King David students and staff move next week to the school's £25 million campus, built as part of the government's Schools for the Future fund.

Almost 200 former pupils and past and current staff enjoyed a traditional school dinner of fish and chips with mushy peas and gravy. The fundraising event also included an eBay-style auction of old school furniture.

Retired deputy head Chris Siddell and ex-teachers John Northover and Janette Silk joined present staff members in a quiz, with cap and gown-wearing year six teacher Steven Pearlman as quizmaster. Organiser Charlotte Benjamin of the Kind David Parents' Guild said £800 had been raised for equipment in the new school.

"Thirty successful bidders will be collecting their furniture this weekend after the building closes for the final time. The bidding is now open to the rest of the school for the remaining 20 desks and chairs. Pledges to date are over £200 and rising."
