A fundraising drive by Manchester King David pupils has raised enough to provide lunch for a year for 150 impoverished Israeli children.
Year nine pupils in Israel last week as part of the school’s annual visit also helped the Leket charity to distribute some of the food they have sponsored.
The students raised £16,000 from events including a sponsored cycle by Noah Kreike and a charitable enterprise with a local Sainbury’s.
Students worked the through the academic year to raise the money, which will also cover a £4,000 grant fund towards helping pupils from lower income families to participate in next year’s trip.
King David’s Rabbi Jonny Goodman said the project “allowed students to connect to similar aged teenagers and the social difficulties they face in Israel”.
