It was the end of an era at Manchester's King David campus as the KD wound up its final academic year before moving into its newly built school.

On Wednesday, the junior school held its last speech day prior to merging with the infant section to create a two-form entry primary school.

Junior school joint chair of governors Suzanne Simon said it was a time for nostalgia, but also to contemplate "a really exciting future for the school, especially with a new headteacher, Myra Macklin, who was appointed in June". Ms Macklin, who takes charge in September, was formerly head of Ightenhill Primary School in Burnley. On Thursday, parents of pre-school nursery children enjoyed an American-style graduation, complete with mortar boards and gowns. The private nursery is to lose its three-to-four-year-old pupils as King David opens a state-funded nursery. The private nursery's acting manager, Lorraine Balaban, says the loss of pre-schoolers will allow it to accommodate a "phenomenal growth" in numbers.
