Jonny, 20, is mourned

articlemain

An Oxford University student who was killed in a road accident last weekend was described as a "wonderful" person who made his family very proud.

Jonathan Roberts, 20, was out walking when he was struck by a car. Jonny, as he was known to friends, was studying history at Oxford's Somerville College.

His parents, Russell and Penny, said they were devastated by the loss of their only son, who they said was "a best friend and mentor to his three sisters".

They remembered him as a passionate student, who as a five-year-old showed an enthusiasm for the medieval battles he would later study. They also praised his inspiring teachers at Westminster School and at Belsize Square Synagogue for helping him reach Oxford and realise a long-held dream.

His peers and tutors at Somerville, who arranged a ceremony in his memory, remembered Jonny as someone who had an "upbeat and sunny nature".
