She is the most famous Jewish matchmaker in the world with a show on Netflix, attracting millions of viewers - and now Aleeza Ben Shalom is coming to Finchley.

The star of Jewish Matchmaker will take centre stage on October 17 as part of an event hosted by Finchley Chabad.

Announcing her exclusive visit, Finchley Chabad co-director Roizy Gancz said Aleeza would “transport attendees into the captivating world of Jewish matchmaking", providing the audience with a “unique opportunity to gain insights, uncover secrets to successful relationships and explore the intricate art of finding the perfect match”.

Aleeza, who has sent at least 200 couples to the chupah during her 15 years as a matchmaker, guides individuals on their quest for love and companionship.

In an interview with the JC in April, Ben Shalom said: “I think I was always a natural connector, good at introducing people to each other.

“I’ve always loved watching couples too — my parents were married happily for many years, so I have that hinterland, seeing a beautiful, long-term, healthy relationship thrive.”

Ben Shalom has five children and started in the world of matchmaking in her 20s, when she was looking for a job that would give her a flexible schedule around childcare. 

She and her husband Gershon moved to Israel in 2021.

Speaking about the Finchley event, organised in conjunction with other Chabad Young Professional groups in London, Gancz said: “With Aleeza’s unique blend of warmth, wit, and wisdom, she will delve into the intricacies of the matchmaking process, revealing what it truly takes to find a lifelong connection.

The event was arranged, said Gancz, because “for the past 10 years of working with the Finchley community, we have engaged with singles who have expressed their need for a more focused dating scene in London.

“We are delighted to have Aleeza join us for a transformative discussion. Her expertise and passion for empowering individuals in their search for love align perfectly with our mission of strengthening community bonds.”
