Social policy expert Baroness Ruth Lister has told a Board of Deputies forum that women remain at greater risk of economic hardship.

The baroness - professor of social policy at Loughborough University - was addressing a poverty and diversity discussion at the House of Commons, convened by the Board's women's and social action groups.

The over-subscribed event was hosted and chaired by deputy and Merseyside MP Louise Ellman. Other speakers included Julie Siddiqi, former CEO of the Islamic Society of Britain, and Bharti Tailor, executive director of the Hindu Forum of Europe. Ms Siddiqi commended the Board on bringing together interfaith, social action and diversity through the one event.
