The slogan-writing skills of a Hampstead Garden Suburb solicitor have landed a £10,000 windfall for Wolfson-Hillel Primary School in Southgate, which his grandchildren attend.
Adrian Brodkin, 63, won the cash in a School Sports Giveaway run by United Biscuits, whose brands include McVitie's and Jaffa Cakes, in conjunction with the Morrisons supermarket chain. He will today receive the cheque - to be used towards sports facilities and equipment - at the opening of the school's new playground.
The family link to Wolfson-Hillel extends beyond his grandchildren Stephanie and Rafi. His daughter-in-law Jen Brodkin is on the teaching staff.
Entering competitions, particularly those requiring a slogan, is his favourite hobby and his prize haul has included a car and a number of holidays.
His successful entry for the United Biscuits contest was: "My school should win the prize because the kids have survived double maths and school dinners, now let's make them British sporting winners."
Wolfson-Hillel foundation governor Phillipa Hart said: "Mr Brodkin's prize came just at the right time. We are about to open a wonderful new playground, but there were a few things on our wish list we couldn't afford. This extra cash has allowed us to put the finishing touches to our project."
