Golders Green care home Clara Nehab House is set to close later this year.

Trustees of the home, which is owned by Leo Baeck Housing Association, took the decision in the light of the significant investment required to meet changes to fire and health and safety regulations. Another factor in their deliberations was the home being no longer suitable to meet the complex care needs of today’s clients.

Having considered a range of options, they said “it is with a heavy heart we have reached this decision. We expect the home will close later this year.”

In meetings held with residents, relatives and staff, they stressed their immediate priority was to ensure the 20 residents were placed in suitable alternative accommodation. A home spokesman said the news was greeted by “an overwhelming feeling of sadness”.

Jewish Care has offered help in relocating clients to Jewish Care properties or homes administered by other providers.

All 30 LBHA employees face redundancy and will be offered interviews with Jewish Care to discuss possible job opportunities.

Once the home has closed, LBHA trustees will wind down the association. After the building is sold and liabilities met, the remaining assets will be distributed to organisations providing care and support to UK Jewry.

The spokesman suggested that a “seven figure sum” would be distributed.
