Glasgow welfare charities are launching a Warm Spaces project to support community members cutting back on home heating because of soaring energy costs.
From 13 November, Cosgrove Care and Jewish Care Scotland will offer people a warm space away from home at Walton Community Care Centre in Giffnock.
The initiative will run every Sunday from midday to 3pm and include a simple lunch and a takeaway food parcel. They will also have access to a “warm clothes bank”.
Cosgrove Care co-chair Colin Black said the project “will offer a refuge for anyone in the local community who needs some extra support.
“Whether they are struggling financially, in need of advice and support or feeling isolated and alone, our doors are open.”
The project is also an example of the willingness of the charities to work together.
Jewish Care Scotland is additionally helping those impacted by the cost-of-living crisis through a one-off grant.
Depending on circumstances, recipients will receive between £300 and £700 through the confidential scheme.
A spokesperson told the JC that every application to date had been successful. But if anyone was considered ineligible for the grant, support would be offered through other means.
