Up-and-coming music artist and former JCoSS pupil Tali Jackson has shared her debut song during a performance at The Camden Club in north-west London.
Her performance of her song, Hottest Rooftop Bar in Town, which is now available to listen to on Spotify, happened to occur on her 22nd birthday.
She told the JC: “Performing and singing is what I’ve always loved and wanted to do. For me, it’s so important to enjoy myself on stage and as an artist, and to combine my passions for acting, singing and generally entertaining.”
Although no stranger to the stage with regular music gigs in Sheffield and Leeds and a background in musical theatre, including performances at Kings Cross Theatre and the London Palladium, Tali said she sensed a “shift” during last week’s performance.
“For the first time in my life, I like to think I saw my fanbase before my eyes that night. I was really able to see the audience having a good time and singing along. Although no great success yet, I definitely felt a change that night.”

The Watford-born singer-songwriter and performer grew up in St Albans and is now entering her third year of a BA in acting at Leeds Conservatoire.
Taking inspiration from the likes of Lily Allen, Amy Winehouse and Duffy, Tali said: “I write about what it means to be a young woman in her 20s, which is a balance of exploring yourself and other people; about being young and spontaneous, with cheeky ad-libs thrown in. It all comes from a light-hearted place.”
Her process of writing, she says, is a “stream of consciousness approach. It’s like trying to put my inner monologue on to the page. It’s mostly pieces of nonsense, which I collect and send over to my friend, Callum, who organises them.”
She met her friend and primary song writer, Callum Smith, when she lived with him during her first year of university.
Tali says her first album is in the works, with the release of another single very soon.
Her older brother, mum, dad, and grandmothers are her biggest fans, she said. “They are all so supportive and amazing. I definitely don’t take it for granted.”
