Football stars kick-start Maccabi fundraiser

Manchester football legends helped Maccabi raise more than £5,000 from a dinner.

England and United defender turned football pundit Gary Pallister was joined by ex-City player Tommy Booth at the dinner at Prestwich's Hilton Suite, attended by 120 guests.They were interviewed on stage by Manchester broadcaster James H Reeve.

In his appeal, Maccabi treasurer Bernie Yaffe announced plans to recruit a youth worker. "To many people Manchester Maccabi has been all about football. And whilst it remains a key pillar of what we offer, we have actually been transitioning into a broad-based community centre."

On Sunday, club chairman Bradley Feld presented 13-year-old Abigail Stephens with a plaque, a lifetime membership and a £50 gift voucher as a thank you for winning a national competition with Fab lollies, earning £16,000 to create a youth centre.
