A woman who could not afford to live in the main Leeds Jewish community areas, despite holding down two jobs, is the first beneficiary of a Leeds Jewish Housing Association scheme.

Debra Falk, whose main employment is with the Open University, has moved into a newly refurbished, one-bedroom starter flat as part of an LJHA initiative to encourage young people to live in Leeds. The scheme is based at the LJHA's Highmoor Close complex in Moortown. The rent is £375 a month.

"I was desperate to feel part of the Jewish community and living within it was the key," said Ms Falk, who is in her mid-30s. "When I heard about the property, I was so excited."
