A kosher bagel bakery has been warned to stop using out-of-date labels implying it has the kashrut seal of the Federation of Synagogues.
The Hendon Bagel Bakery has not been under Federation supervision since September and is now licensed by the London Beth Din and the Sephardi Kashrut Authority.
In an advertisement in last Friday's JC, the Federation claimed that, despite repeated requests to owner Avi Avital, the bakery continued "to use labels with our kashrut seal on products".
The Federation's Simon Hirsch believed that Mr Avital "had extra labels which he wanted to use up, but we and the Beth Din warned him to stop. It's very rare that something like this happens." He hoped the matter had now been resolved amicably. Mr Avital was unavailable for comment.
