An interfaith food collection at Brent Cross Tesco resulted in 90 crates of food and toiletries being donated to Colindale foodbank.
Jesus House joined Hendon Reform Synagogue and Hendon Mosque for their third interfaith Mitzvah Day collection, asking shoppers to buy an extra item to donate to the needy.
Fuad Nahdi is director of Radical Middle Way, a group that promotes moderate Islam in the wake of the 7/7 bombings, and is involved in the Three Faiths Forum. He said: "The idea of being of service is amazing, this is what faith is all about. It is about remembering others who are less fortunate. On a practical level it brings communities together. When we do something nice together it enlightens people."
In 2013 the collection was confined to Brent Cross, but this year a new partnership with Barnet Tescos meant collections could also be held at the Finchley and Colney Hatch branches.
Tesco's Barnet community champion Marcie Thomas said: "We're committed to supporting the local community and Mitzvah Day was a hands-on way to give back locally."
