Rafi and Chaya Goodwin will be Chigwell and Hainault United Synagogue’s new rabbinic couple.

The Goodwins, currently the Essex shul’s community rabbi and rebbetzen, will succeed Rabbi Baruch and Nechama Davis, who are leaving at the end of July.

Their appointment has been overwhelmingly approved in a members’ vote.

Rabbi Goodwin said he and his wife were “thrilled. In June, we will have been in the community for six years and are so pleased we can continue to build on what we have started.

“With an exciting major refurbishment under way, coupled with a growing, vibrant community, we are looking forward to a bright future together.”

Chigwell and Hainault chair Lindsay Shure said the couple had “endeared themselves to the community. I’m absolutely delighted, for them and for us.”

Rabbi Davis said the Goodwins were “warm, easy-going, caring and very capable and we have really enjoyed their friendship and working closely with them.

“This decision, together with the shul redevelopment project, portends a great future for Chigwell and Hainault.”
