Elvis helps Kerry Katona to Come Dine With Me victory

articlemain

A performance by a Jewish Elvis impersonator helped Kerry Katona win a celebrity edition of Channel 4’s Come Dine With Me marking the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

Elvis Shmelvis (aka Welwyn Garden City Synagogue member Martyn Dias) was invited by the former Atomic Kitten star to sing at the royal-themed dinner party she catered for entertainer Lionel Blair, EastEnders actress Cheryl Fergison, and ventriloquist Keith Harris — who brought along his duck, Orville.

“Elvis Shmelvis was the perfect touch for a perfect evening,” said Ms Katona, who donated her £1,000 prize to the Shannon Bradshaw Trust, a charity which helps children with life-threatening conditions.

“The whole evening was fantastic,” Mr Dias recalled. “Six hours after I got the call from Kerry Katona, I was dancing with Lionel Blair, having a ‘chat’ with Orville and making myself a sandwich in her kitchen. It was a truly surreal experience but I loved every minute.”

Elvis Shmelvis is something of a lucky charm on the show. In 2009, another guest appearance helped Dunstable hairdresser Luigi Muscella to victory in an edition which has been repeated more than 30 times.
