Edgware reform hosts Ukrainian 'twins'

articlemain

Edgware and District Reform Synagogue held an Odessa Week to celebrate a visit from members of its twin Ukrainian community, Emanu-El.

Events ranged from a Ukrainian food-tasting session to an Odessa-style Friday night service and chavurah supper. The programme also included a concert featuring Emanu-El’s Vladimir Torchinsky and the EDRS choir. The Chief Progressive Rabbi of Ukraine, Alexander Dukhovny, was among the audience.

EDRS presented the delegation with a package of educational resources for its religion school. Gifts from the Ukrainians included a picture of the Brodsky Synagogue in Odessa.

“We fondly remember our visit to Odessa last year and were delighted to welcome our friends to our community to show them EDRS in action,” said Edgware’s twinning group chair David Lewis.
“The visit has cemented the relationship between our communities.”
