Leeds' joint synagogue youth group LJOY is opening a kosher restaurant for one night only to help raise money for its theatrical activities.

The joint youth project by Leeds' Orthodox synagogues will have youngsters and university students waiting on tables to serve a catered meal and has already seen more than 100 people book for the night at Etz Chaim Synagogue on Sunday.

LJOY's Sagi Yechezkel said hopes are to raise a large part of £6,000 needed to put on a performance of Fiddler on the Roof in December. Last year's Joseph meets Glee play ran two sell-out nights.

He added: "We have 100 kids coming to events and next year we are going to be starting barmitzvah and batmitzvah clubs."
