Former Coronation Street star Bradley Walsh was among the 130 players in the 38th annual golf tournament staged by Rags, the Redbridge Aid Golf Society, which raised £185,000.
Jewish Care chairman Stephen Zimmerman was presented with a cheque for £170,000 at the Abridge event. It will go to the charity’s Redbridge Jewish Community Centre, Sinclair House. The Community Security Trust will receive £10,000 and £5,000 will help 10 people to spend a year in Israel developing leadership skills.
Mr Zimmerman observed that Sinclair House was the focal point for Redbridge Jewry, “where activities for older people happily coexist with activities for teenagers — everything from meals-on-wheels and a day centre to childcare. These services simply couldn’t continue at the same level without the kind of generosity shown by people here today.”
Michael Green and Oriol Phillips took the main individual prizes and the team trophy went to Stanley Baskin, Stanley Perry, Howard Diamond and Malcolm Stern.
