Manchester Chinese kosher restaurant Pagoda is relocating after 15 years to reach more customers.

Pagoda will move in summer from Bury Old Road, Whitefield, to premises near the Holy Law Synagogue in Prestwich.

Announcing the plans on Facebook, Daniel Clayhills, Pagoda’s owner, said: “Are the rumours true Pagoda is moving? Yes.”

He told the JC he was excited about the new premises, which will seat at least 80 people at ground level.

“We have wanted to be closer to the community for some time and this is the perfect position,” he said.

“This is a better location for the restaurant and was a better deal financially, so it is a no-brainer for us as a business.”

Licensed by the Manchester Beth Din, Pagoda  is one of only three kosher restaurants in the area, according to Mr Clayhills.

He hopes the new site will allow him to cater “sheva brachot [wedding blessings] and kiddushim with the shul just across the road.

“We are hoping to be open in August but I can’t say exactly.”

There will also be a takeaway option for Prestwich and Salford residents using the UberEATS delivery service.
